   Best Practices:

I Sukrithi

The department has an Economic Association named “Sukrithi”. It brings together the students of the department and acts as a platform for various academic as well as non-academic activities. Sukrithi is led by a team of students and is facilitated by the teachers. It aims at the holistic development of the students and assists them in the transformation from caterpillars to butterflies. Sukrithi is an umbrella consortium of other associations such as Charchavedi, Bhoomi, Dharma and Samskriti.

  • Charchavedi: This wing provides the students an opportunity to make them aware of the world around them through discussions on various topics. Charchavedi organises weekly discussions and debates on various topics. Charchavedi has three other groups under its realm, namely, Economic Concepts Group, Current Affairs Group and Book and Movie Review Group.
  • Bhoomi: This is the environmental wing of our department. It conducts awareness programs on environmental protection. Workshops and exhibitions on environment were also organised. Gardening, Cleaning and waste management are other activities organised by Bhoomi.
  • Dharma: Dharma is the social service wing of Sukrithi. Dharma instils social-commitment and responsibility in our students. Here students serve the society through various programmes

  • Samskriti: This is our literary and cultural wing. Samskriti publishes a manuscript magazine named “Arthasahiti”. It also brings out wall magazine and posters. Samskriti also organises cultural programs in the department.

II Sakhitha

Sakhitha is the Alumnae Association of the Department of Economics, Govt.College for Women. Sakhthitha is actively involved in many programmes such as organising seminars under the banner of Muttathemulla. -“the divine fragrance of a wise old owl.” where old students interact with present students. An annual alumni meet is organised by Sakhitha on the second Saturday of every December.

III Deeptha

Deeptha is the association of Research scholars of our department. Deeptha along with conducting academic seminars also organises extra-curricular activities and inter-collegiate competitions for students of Economics.

IV Department Day

Department day is another innovative practice followed by our department. Every year a day is observed as Department day similar to college day. On this day students of Economics department present their skill in a range of cultural activities. This programme ensures that every student is provided an opportunity to be an organiser or presenter on and off the stage. Student achievers with distinguished performance in academic and non-academic activities are bestowed with honour on this day.

V Dharpan

Dharpan was an initiative by our students to reach out to school students and help them learn. Graduate post graduate and research scholars were part of this initiative.

VI Public-Service Delivery

In 2018-19, the department published a hand-book that contained all the welfare programmes for SC-ST students. This was compiled and edited by the students and teachers of our department.
